I think a few obvious things that I've done in the past are like the survey we took and naming our pod. But something that stood out to me were the human sculptures which I did a lot in my theater class to create tableaux. Also, the quick writes in response to the images like the one of the people on the horseback. I remember doing activities similar to that last year with Ms.Janna. She put images all around the classroom of random things and we had to write short stories about every one of them. 2. How did what you learned and did this week EXTEND or push your thinking in new directions? (give SPECIFIC examples)I think this week helped me with the writing of my poem. The 8th grader that critiqued me asked really good questions about sensory details I could add to my poem. 3. What is still CHALLENGING or confusing for you about what you learned and worked on this week? (give SPECIFIC examples) I guess the whole part about Clay Shirky's article. Not that I don't understand what the article was about, just that I don't know why we did all that. We had that time to write ideas about what our cell phone policies should be but we never looked back at them or used them for anything. Maybe i'm missing something or maybe we will do something with them in the future but as of right now I feel like the purpose of all that we did is lost to me.

That's a good point about not returning explicitly to the cell phone discussion. I felt like the discussion was really interesting, but it didn't feel like it led to any particularly dramatic ideas for shifting policy, so I didn't return to it. I'm hoping that the idea of distraction as "secondhand smoke", and the evidence for the inefficiency of multitasking will be something that we refer to throughout the year, but you're right that I could be more clear about returning to this!
