Project description
The purpose of this project was celebrate and recognize the lives of the people in our community while they're still here and alive.
I interviewed my grandmother. I was curious to know more about how she grew up and her relationship with my grandpa. I rarely had deep conversations with my grandfather and know that hes gone, I really cant anymore. So I used this project as an opportunity to really connect with my grandma.

Pre-interview process
I prepared for my interview by creating a list of questions for my interview. Because my grandmother didn't feel like she had any strong connection to any historical period in her life, I made the questions more about what it was like living in Tijuana and then moving to America as a kid. I also asked about the cultural differences, her relationships with her siblings, meeting my grandpa and his life.
As a class, we prepared for our interviews by going over what a good interview and a bad interview looks like . We also watched Story Corp interviews to get inspiration for our own interviews!
The interview.
My interview started off a little bumpy but as we started getting deeper in the conversation we got more comfortable and things ran a lot more smoothly. Speaking about her childhood isn't really something she dies often and I could tell that she got really into it. As for me, I started very structured which I didn't feel was going to give me a quality interview so I dumped all the questions I had planned and just had a conversation with her. That was when I started to get the interview I wanted.
Interview outline
The interview outline was basically just a brief overview of important points in the interview.

Reflection.
I interviewed my grandmother because I was really bummed that I never got the chance to do this sort of thing with my grandfather. I learned a lot about what her life was like growing up and about how my grandparents met. I knew that speaking about my grandfather was going to be tough for my grandma because he passed away so recently but I felt like she was using the interview to reflect on good memories and to celebrate his life. This project inspired me to devote the time to speak to everyone else in my life. My friends, my aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, sibling, grandparents and great grandparents.
