I did not enjoy the book. To me it was really confusing and was a drag to read. And I already don't like reading as it is and being forced to was even worse. I can read a book on my own, for pleasure. As far as emotions, didn't have many emotions about it since I knew that most of the book was fiction. It was all true I think I would've enjoyed it a bit more. My favorite genre of books is either horror or kind of scary books or nonfiction books about like nature or animals and life. I like growing knowledge from reading and I wouldn't like to grow knowledge of something that wasn't real. What's the point of reading it? Another thing that I think made this few weeks not enjoyable was all of the other work that I had to do on top of the reading. I'm already a slow reader and having to do extra work made the process even longer and I spent late nights reading and filling in paperwork.
The connections I can make to Dia De Los Muertos is the way that he tells stories and uses symbolism to remember the people he lost. Day of the dead is all about celebrating the people's life that you've lost instead of being sad about their death. And I think that telling stories is O'briens way of celebrating and remembering.
Overall I thought the book was based off of good ideas but it's just not for me. I would rather read something like a love story or a mystery. Something that keeps me enthralled the entire duration of me reading. I'm sure a lot of people love that book and I admit, it's very interesting the way and style it's written.
